The Rotary Club of Buckhannon Upshur partners with WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital to host blood drives and food donation drives two to three times per year. The blood drives are managed by Vitalant, the official blood supplier for both St. Joseph’s Hospital and United Hospital Center.

Blood donations are needed to ensure adequate access to blood for traumas, surgical needs, patients undergoing cancer treatments and other medical procedures that require blood to save someone’s life. According to the American Red Cross, “Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood and/or platelets.” It is important to note that blood and platelets cannot be manufactured — volunteer donors are the one and only source for blood donations, with the power for one donor to save more than one life.
